Vice President and Security Patrols Chairman, Joel G. Williams, Agrees to Run for President!
Current 9-Term President Reynolds Eagerly Looking Forward to Lesser Role;
Reynolds Agrees to Stay on Board in 2010 at Request of Williams
With the support of a fantastic, hard-working Board, we have been able to achieve our long-range objectives in technology, the internet and communications. When I was first elected President in 2000, our only communications to our members was via newsletter. Now we have a website, an online-bill payment system and email. As your president, I’ve seen my two kids go from grade school to high school and college. I guess time flies when you’re having fun! We have accomplished a lot together over the past 10 years, and I didn’t want to step down until all of our new initiatives and projects were successfully operating and under way.
I am very pleased to announce that Joel G. Williams, BPHA VP and Security Patrols Chairman since 2005, has agreed to run for President for the 2010 term. In January 2010, I will finish the second year of a vacant board position.
Beach Park HOA’s Specific Objectives met since 2000 and Tasks Accomplished:
We have two new names of residents running for the Board’s 2010-2011 term: Peggy Curlin and Margaret Wittje. Ms. Curlin has been the secretary of the bi-laws committee this summer, and Ms. Wittje is a newer resident to Beach Park.
Thank you for your support over the past many years. It has truly been my pleasure to work with all of you!
Emmy Purcell Reynolds, President
See you all on the walking trail with my hubby and my sweet Sheltie dog

Code Enforcement - If you see problems in your area, please call 274-5545 or use the online service at www.TampaGov.Net. Reporting online is the fastest, easiest and most efficient way to report an issue.
“Snipe Signs,” or roadway advertising signs, are in violation of city code. The HOA understands the Wednesday and weekend open house signs and does not remove them on those days. However, after Sunday and after Wednesday, open house and garage sale signs will be removed and discarded. You are welcome to remove and throw away ad signs.
YOU are our eyes and ears. If you see a white official variance or zoning notice sign, please all the Zoning Chair at 286-0980 and leave the address. We can’t investigate issues unless you call us or email us with the address and info.
“Yard Art”, Fountains, Bird Baths, Sculptures, etc.: Your concerns have been relayed to the City about a particular prominent structure. We have asked the City for a determination of the large structure’s allowance. There is no concrete ordinance addressing large yard art structures. The city needs to determine if it is regulated by the size and scope.
Beach Park Info: approximately 1,275 single-family residential properties with 100% RS-75 zoning and R6 land use. There are no business uses, government uses or commercial uses within your Beach Park HOA. Many of our original homes that were built in the early 1920’s as part of the original Beach Park Co.’s plat are still standing today on the waterfront and along our tree-lined shaded streets. Boundaries: North is single-family residential south of Kennedy Blvd., East is Lois Avenue (the west side only), South is Morrison Avenue/Beachway Avenue (both sides), West is Beachway, the Bay, and Sandpiper to single-family residential east of Hoover. There are no apartment complexes or condominiums within our official Beach Park recognized boundaries, yet we are adjacent to one of the Southeastern United States’ larges DRI, the Westshore Business District.
Beach Park was annexed to the city from the county in the 1950’s, after being one of the oldest, original established neighborhoods in South Tampa. As many as 62 homes were built in the 1920’s in Beach Park and the children and grandchildren of these residents attended H.B. Plant High. Plant High, elementary schools Grady and Dale Mabry, and Coleman Middle School are the local neighborhood public schools for Beach Park residents.
Beach Park is not a deed-restricted community and we do not have any of our own community rules or restrictions. We support the current City of Tampa’s zoning, land use, laws and ordinances. The general membership ratifies this position at all of our meetings. Beach Park News Oct. 2009

Featured photos: two gorgeous homes on Royal Palm; one is 2009 new construction and the other is a newly renovated 1925 beauty. Both homes have kept to the strict design and architecture of the grand Mediterranean style. The home on the left was tastefully built on three buildable lots. This is a wonderful example of reverse-infill. The home on the right was granted Historic Designation by the Preservation Commission in 2009, pending approval by City Council next year.

We have been trying to meet with the developer of the new apartment complex for weeks and they have agreed to meet with us this month to go over their plans for the site at Cleveland and Hoover.
Our new website is www.BeachParkTampa.org and is through a website company that is only for non-profits and charitable non-profits, and will not require that we hire web designers, web administrators or pay high fees for web domain hosting. This is new to us and we will be adding to this site as we get more information to add for your review. Please let us know what types of things you think might be beneficial to have. We do not have any advertising in our newsletters or BPHA emails, so we also did not want any websites that had side bar advertising or pop-ups. Also this site is a secure site, and it will not be a site for blogging or posting comments.
Thank you for your support,

Beach Park News – November 2008
Hoover and Azeele Basin –ruling regarding marina/non-marina: Tampa City Council in November 2008 voted to allow the marina to continue its industrial barge and industrial marina use.
Neptune Way request for Vacating – The homeowners of the two properties on the end of Neptune Way decided to withdraw their request for the vacating of the public right of way on the waterfront at Neptune Way, per their representative on October 1, 2008.
Beach Park Arches and Gateways – still problems with getting agreement from the northern property owners –city was to send out requests for proposals to bid on the work with bids due November 1, 2008.Although the BPHA has secured grants and BPHA donations (over $5,000) for renovation of our historic arches, the property owners on the north and the city have not come to an agreement about allowing access to the property for renovation. The city’s surveys show that most of the wing walls are actually on private property, yet the city has been maintaining the structures and the land since it was deeded to the city in 1953 from the county. The structures were built in the 1920’s and are the only remaining original gateways into a neighborhood in the city of Tampa. Portions of the arches and gates are on public right of way and parts are on public property. The southern property owners have been fully cooperating but the northern owners are absentee owners and desire that the city buy the land or not have access to the structures for maintenance. The BPHA is trying to get the city and the owners to come to an agreement of some type so that we can work on the restoration of the structures. The Historic Preservation Commission is supporting the renovation proposal but it has not gone before city council yet, due to the owners’ disagreements.
Ward Street and/or Kennedy development – we do not have any updates on this except that the developer is still involved. Please ask your own attorney for more information
Security Patrols Program – still successful in its Eighth year, we are asking for you to renew your paid membership at this time. The program runs from July 1 to June 30 of each year, and the fee now includes your annual homeowners association dues – all for $250.00. If you are new to Beach Park, haven’t yet renewed or have decided you would like to join this excellent program of added security and vacation watch, please send your check payable to the Beach Park Homeowners Association to P.O. Box 320472, Tampa, FL 33679. If you have questions, please email the president at EmmyReynolds@TampaBay.RR.com or the Security Patrols Chairman at Joel.Williams@Wachovia.com . Joel’s phone number is 600-8375.
Code Enforcement –If you have problems in your area, please call Peer to Peer at 286-0970 or Code Enforcement at 274-5545 or use the online service at www.TampaGov.Net.
House Numbers Must be Visible and Legible from the Street!!! – Did you know it is a code violation to not display your house numbers so that emergency personnel can find your house in a few seconds? This is the law and you need to comply for your own safety. If you need help getting numbers on your home, we have a volunteer staff that will help you do this. Please call 289-3137 and leave a message for assistance.
