Beach Park Arches Project About to be Completed!
February 2010: I hope by now you've seen the work being done on the Arches Restoration at Swann and Lois! The color that was selected is "Sherwin Williams Buff" and was selected by the City of Tampa Historic Preservation Director, Dennis Fernandez after extensive research, paint chipping, on-site paint sample examinations and historical perspective. The HOA Arches Committee met with the city numerous times and have our approval to his color selection.
The HOA, through your donations, is funding the work on the side wing walls and the city funded the middle arch work through a Federal Transportation Grant that was received years ago as part of the highway widening project on I-275.
The city contractor has to still repair some of the roof tiles, touch up a few spots and paint the long, side top panels white instead of buff to match the historical correctness of painting different textures different paint colors.
The HOA's contractor is going to seal the top of the wing walls with a mortar to fill the cracks and a clear sealant to try to keep the water out of the walls. The water inside the walls is seeping a bit, but we added weep holes on the rear of both walls to allow drainage.
The paint, primer and other materials were donated 100% by Suncoatings, Inc. owned by Mike Hyer, of Beach Park.
The painting contractor we hired is Pizzazz Painting, Peter Atenza, owner.
The Landscape Plan is being submitted to the city this week. The recent freeze of 2010 easily identified which plants are freeze tolerant!
2009:Calling all Beach Park residents and those interested in helping with the Beach Park Historic Arches Preservation Project!
As you know, we've been working on this for over five years. We've met with City officials several times over the past two weeks, and work is just days away. We have support from the north and south property owners and the HOA will be doing the restoration work on the private property and the city will be doing the work on the city's property.
You've donated over $6,020 in cash toward this project and Mike Hyer, Beach Park resident and COO of Suncoatings,Inc. is donating ALL of the primer and paint for the entire project!
When we get to phase II, we'll be talking with the city and the Peterson's, Beach Park residents and owners of Signature Landscape Lighting, about possible outdoor lighting.
